Our program is structured so you won’t just learn about Italian culture: You’ll live it, as a full-time resident of Ariccia, a small town near Rome. You’ll be immersed – literally – in Italian history on Auburn’s overseas campus, the grand Palazzo Chigi, a 15th century palace once home to nobility. Our 12-week curriculum is a fast-paced mix of classroom lectures followed by field trips to bring meaningful context to what you’ve learned. On weekends, the rest of Europe is yours to explore.
By program’s end, you’ll have earned an International Minor in Human Sciences, an impressive addition to any resume in our global society. You’ll flourish in ways you didn’t know were possible, gaining a better understanding of the world and yourself. The Joseph S. Bruno Auburn Abroad program is a 12-week program located at Auburn’s permanent overseas campus in Ariccia, Italy. Students not only learn about Italian culture, but live it as they engage with lectures, excursions, and the community of Ariccia. During their stay, students will live in Chigi Palace, a 16th-century palace.
Upon completion of the program, students will earn an International Minor and a deeper understanding of Italian culture and life. They will gain a deeper understanding of the world and themselves having developed resume-boosting global leadership skills.
The Joseph S. Bruno Auburn Abroad in Italy program is a chance to earn an International Minor in Human Sciences while engaging with lectures focused on sustainability, world history, architecture, art, design, language, cuisine, and culture and applying their knowledge through planned excursions.
Students majoring in Global Studies in Human Sciences and Human Development and Family Sciences, apart from Child Life, are also able to apply Joseph S. Bruno Auburn Abroad in Italy to their internship requirements. Upon approval from their respective department, the program can also be used to supplement professional elective credits.
Students must come by the Office of Global Education in Spidle 334 to fill out the application and put down a nonrefundable deposit of $1,500. This deposit allows you to save your spot on the list of students.
Because of the popularity of this program, semesters tend to book 2 years in advance. If there is a semester you are interested in, we recommend applying earlier rather than later. However, our office also keeps waitlists for each semester in case original participants drop. To put your name on the waitlist, come by our office and fill out the waitlist sign-up. A non-refundable deposit is not requested until the student is taken off the waitlist and offered a position in the program.

Yes, scholarships are available each semesterare available each semester for College of Human Sciences students and can be accessed through AUSOM, located on AU Access. Applicants must submit a program application, deposit and a scholarship application to be considered for a scholarship.
