Internship Stories
Molly Hall
Hunger Solutions Institute
My name is Molly Hall and I was an intern with the Hunger Solutions Institute with Auburn University for the summer of 2021! This was such a cool experience as I worked on a project called Nourish Wellness. This project was focused on ending food insecurity among children in the Auburn/ Opelika area which directly correlated to my minor: hunger studies. Nourish Wellness’s overall mission is to end food insecurity among families in Auburn/ Opelika through a multidisciplinary approach to health. This includes pediatric care, nutritional care, physical education, and mindfulness practices. I feel that this is a very timely need as food insecurity increased as a result of COVID. This project is important as Nourish Wellness hits many aspects of health not touched by traditional medicine.
This internship was an opportunity to directly work in a hunger related field. My specific responsibilities included creating the mindfulness curriculum for Nourish participants. This was an incredibly unique role as curriculum is not my background. Although it was challenging to create, this was an incredible opportunity to see how many facets encompass Nourish Wellness. Throughout my time at the internship, I was always encouraged by the Hunger Solutions Institute commitment to ending hunger through community advocacy and policy work. My time at HSI showed me tangible ways to end hunger as well as remain hopeful in the fight to raise awareness for the things that I care about.
